Birding is one of our specialities. On a day trip from Windhoek, a specialist birding guide takes you into the highland and acacia country around the capital, where dry bush, rocky hillsides and small dams hold a surprising variety of birds, including several species found only in Namibia and its immediate neighbours.
Possible sightings
Birds are wild and no species can be guaranteed, but possible sightings in the central highlands include:
- Rockrunner, Hartlaub’s spurfowl and white-tailed shrike on the rocky slopes
- Monteiro’s hornbill, southern yellow-billed hornbill and Rüppell’s parrot in the acacia and broad-leaved bush
- Crimson-breasted shrike, pririt batis and acacia pied barbet
- Raptors overhead, and waterbirds when the dams hold water
How it works
Birding day trips are private and planned on request, as a morning outing or a full day. Early starts pay off, because birds are most active in the cool of the morning. Tell us whether you are new to birding or chasing particular species, and we will plan the day around it.
Bring binoculars and a camera if you have them, along with a hat, sunscreen and water.
