The story
Discover Sossusvlei
Sossusvlei is a sea of towering apricot dunes, some rising more than 300 metres above the surrounding gravel plains. The light here changes by the minute: at sunrise the dune faces split into pure light and deep shadow, and by midday the clay pans glare white beneath a hard blue sky.
Deadvlei, a short walk from the main parking area, holds the skeletons of camel thorn trees that died centuries ago and never decayed. It is one of the most striking sights on the continent.
