Walvis Bay

A working harbour with a lagoon full of flamingos, pelicans and dolphins.

Walvis Bay's lagoon is one of southern Africa's most important coastal wetlands, holding tens of thousands of flamingos at times. Boat cruises head out past pelicans and seals towards Pelican Point, and the dune fields south of town — including Sandwich Harbour — are among the most dramatic anywhere on the coast.
